Portsmouth's Gothic, Post-Punk legends Torpedoes release their fourth, album, Heaven's Light Our Guide (yep, named after the city’s very own moto) on a prime Saturday night.

Described by the UK's national press as “probably the Last Great Gothic Rock Band … epic, dark romanticism” Louder Than War and “Goth punks with a twist … ambitious, well-arranged and pushing the envelope. A sound akin to the Manic Street Preachers, Muse and The Damned” by Vive Le Rock.

Torpedoes offer both a ‘night of dark’ alongside classic tunes, in the way The Cure, Bowie and Joy Division/New Order both had outsider edge alongside the memorable.

Oh, they also sometimes play a cover of the Kelly Marie Number 1 hit single, Feels Like I'm In Love ... the tune's writer, Ray Dorset of Mungo Jerry (who wrote the tune for Elvis, but he died just before recording it) has endorsed it ... so, you are guaranteed to have plenty to smile about (just wear that black). Singer/songwriter Razor (he of the classic raven dark hair) has toured the UK and Europe many times with the likes of UK Subs, Devilish Presley and their heroes The Damned.

The album will be available on the night.

Plus, The Wedgewood Rooms 'Introducing':

Two young Portsmouth bands, hitting the stage here for the very first time!

First on will be Violent Heartbeat, fronted by Eleanor Woodcock, the daughter of incendiary 16 Bronsons frontman Jim - one of the city's very greatest punk bands. Singer/songwriter Eleanor says they make "sexy alternative rock with lyrics for those disillusioned with the future". Think Patty Smith with Britpop tunes and killer riffs ... make sure you get down early to see what all the fuss is about.

The Cherries describe themselves as “five misfit teenagers making music from an attic in Portsmouth. We’re biased of course, but we’re sure if you come watch us, you’ll have a Cherrific time”. They’re named after the colour of their rehearsal room. They write their own (brilliant) Indie tunes and play the odd Blondie classic. Get to say "we saw them first!".
