Jazz at the Glad: Laura MacDonald Quartet
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
Always uplifting, Laura’s music shows off her love of melody and extraordinary technical facility. She brings an all-star trio of Scotlands finest to play with her: Alyn Cosker, Mario Caribe and Kevin MacKenzie. This will be a night of accomplished, sophisticated, classic Scottish jazz.
Laura Macdonald is one of the Scotland's (and the UK's) most prominent women in jazz. Laura won the inaugural Scottish Young Jazz Musician of the Year prize in 1997, and since then, in a career spanning three decades, she has won and been nominated for multiple awards, recorded several albums, become a core player in the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and collaborated with heavyweight musicians all over the world. She plays regularly all over the UK, and is a teacher at the Royal Conservatoire.
“Macdonald improvises with both marvellous tonal variation…and an ear for meaningful phrasing” - the Herald
“The arrangements are very sophisticated…Awakenings is a gracefully crafted set” - the Guardian
