The Glad Cafe is a not for profit music venue with a licensed cafe in the Shawlands area of southside Glasgow. It has something to offer people of any age or background in this diverse and vibrant local community. We are 100% vegan, fully accessible, and dog-friendly.
We are open 11am-late Mon-Fri and 10am-late Sat/Sun, with the kitchen serving from noon Mon-Fri and from 10am Sat+Sun. The cafe serves high quality coffee from Machina Espresso and delicious cakes baked in-house and from various local suppliers.
Our cafe and venue bars serve a growing selection of great tasting craft beers, including a range of Williams Brothers, Aspall cider and Blue Moon, plus a guest tap featuring even more local offerings like Kings Park-ers Simple Things Fermentations, on draft, and a fridge full of bottles and cans from some of the best Scottish and international breweries.
Our well equipped venue provides a welcome space in the Southside for showcasing up and coming local musicians as well as internationally known acts. We feature indie, electronic, experimental, world and traditional musicians. The space has become known for its great acoustic and the quality of the programme which also includes film, drama, storytelling and philosophical talks. The exhibition space in the cafe also hosts a changing feast of visual delight curated by two of our volunteers, and this combined with the six monthly zine, the Glad Rag, adds to our on-going representation of Southside creativity!
We are the proud winners of the Scottish Cultural Awards for Best Venue 2016/17, and the Scottish Trad Awards Best Venue 2016/17!
As a Community Interest Company we work hard to support our sister charity the Glad Foundation, and our Co-operative venture Glad Rags Thrift Shop. Glad Rags Thrift puts its profits into supporting the Glad Foundation which runs free and affordable music workshops for local people.
