(La'al [Larl] - meaning small, little, petite, bijou in Cumbrian dialect)

Are you an acoustic artist? Maybe in a duo or trio? A songwriter/performer/band of acoustic instruments & percussion?(Although I can record electric guitars & basses too.)

Then I can record your songs plus production, mixing & mastering in my studio very near Jcn 36/South Lakes/Kirkby Lonsdale/Lancaster areas.

I use an Ear Trumpet Labs 'Myrtle' mic - other mics available such as Rode NT1 & the Audix range - but the Myrtle is amazing for that authentic sound, favoured by folk, roots and bluegrass players.

So I can capture your unique performance in one go or I can do overdubs as you build your song - plus I can add instrumentation such as bass, percussion, guitars etc...

I recorded the whole of our FOLKLORE album using the Myrtle mic only! - instruments, percussion and vocals. I produced, edited & mixed the tracks before handing them over to Andris Kiss to master - although I can master your songs to keep everything simple

I have a collection of quality studio mics such as Ear Trumpet Labs 'Myrtle', Rode NT1, Audix range and more if you would rather have a dedicated mic set up for your guitar or voice. Plus I can add extra instrumentation such as bass, fretted or fretless, tenor guitars, mandolin family, banjo and many other percussion instruments if you'd like to add to your track such as Cajon, tambourine, triangle and shaker. I'm set up with midi sounds if you'd like authentic, quality sampled drums added to your songs.

As part of the La'al Cabin experience I can add this instrumentation but we can chat about what may enhance your track(s) without detracting from your own sound.

Remote Sessions: Recording elsewhere but would still like my input? I can record guitar, bass, mandolin, banjo, percussion like cajon, shakers etc... & shruti drone parts remotely in my home studio for your own project and send them to you or studio of choice.

2026 pricing...

With recording, so much depends on your project, ability, time and glitches!

As a general guide allow 25/hour recording time, mixing 40 - 50/song depending on the layers of tracks, adding instruments &/or production 0 - 50/song (yes, sometimes free for an odd track of guitar!), mastering 25/song.

Example (with added layers of instrumentation): Max 2/3 hours to record 1 song, production, mixing and mastering (done in my time), 175/song. (The bonus here is me being able to add layers of extra instrumentation and work it in the price rather than paying standard session musician fees on top plus mastering costs you might get elsewhere).

You'll receive a rough mix (usually later that day via email) and then another proof mix once all parts are recorded and mixed in mono for you to check all is OK before I master the final version(s) in stereo - typically in a weeks time.

*note that any extra recording time required would be 25/hour added to the price.
Any requests to record multiple songs, EPs or Albums can be discussed prior to booking - I'll offer a package price to suit budgets for your project.
