A contemporary folk duo/trio composed of Mike Turnbull & Cate Turnbull. Often with Dave Pennington as Edge O' The Map.
Mike Turnbull is a multi-instrumentalist who has the knack for writing well crafted songs with a story to tell. With his trademark tenor guitar, Influences are taken from his home region of the Lakes, around the UK & beyond. Other bands and line ups have included The Safe Kings, The Valiant Knights and Briar & Bramble.
Together with Cate on bass, mandolin or Shruti box, the 'Edge O' The Map' sound & style is original modern folk ranging from melodic ballads to the more upbeat, catchy, singalong, festival style pleasers, many with a sea, pirate or historical coastal theme.
The duo weave songs and storytelling together, with historical influences far and wide being the main stay of their material.
Together they play Mike's material, new & old, keeping things minimal yet with drive and atmosphere. Great for small venues, festivals & theatres. Sometimes a trio with the addition of Cajon played by Dave Pennington.
