He was born in 1966 in Brazil and he moved to Portugal in the 80's, where he attended, as a scholarship holder, the Hot Clube de Portugal, a Jazz School in Lisbon. Since then, he has collaborated with several names of Portuguese music: Rui Veloso, Pilar Homem de Melo, Dulce Pontes, Sérgio Godinho, José Mário Branco, Maria João and Mário Laginha. In the foreign context he collaborated with Wayne Shorter, Paulo Moura, Cliff Korman, Rick Lathan, John Stubblefield, Frank Colon, Manu Katche, Luiz Avelar, Ivan Lins, among many others.

He currently works with Jan Garbarek along with Trilok Gurtu and Rainer Bruninghaus.
