Getting Under The Shell Of Limpit Nov 28, 2017

We have a new face to tell you all about, he is producing some awesome tracks for us. His name is Limpit and we had a few questions to ask him about his music past and what motivates and inspires him now.

How did you get into music?

I got into music by going to see my dad’s band play most Saturday’s (he’s a face melting solo playing lead guitarist). We’d all get back to my dad’s and listen to vinyl until the early hours. We’d listen to Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. These are all huge influences to me.

How has your music taste developed over time?

I used to be a bit of a singer/song writer and gigged a fair amount and then stopped for one reason or another after losing interest. That all changed when I went to Bestival in 2012 and saw Fever Ray play live.. at that moment I decided to get into producing. It absolutely blew me away! On the way home I went to Production Room in Leeds and bought a midi keyboard and Ableton!

Who are the main artists that inspire/influence you now?

The Avalanches, Jon Wayne, Floating Points, Jordan Rakei, Sun Ra, Shuggie Otis, Roy Ayers.. loads more. What are you doing with your music at the moment? At the minute I’m working on some music for my live set, also getting some stuff together for a single release. What process do you use to develop an idea that you have to it being a fully ready produced song? I usually grab a stack of old dusty records I’ve bought from a charity shop or had donated to me and sit and go through them for samples. Then I’ll sit and try add some things either using synths, guitar or bass and see if it’s worth keeping. My best tracks have all kind of taken on a life of their own though, they just kind of all fall into place. image description

When did you start playing live and how does it compare to producing?

I only started playing live about a month ago, it was always something I’d intended on doing but the draw of sitting at home in my studio, fiddling with synths and old records was far too great.. until one day I got a message from a promoter asking if I could play live and instantly said yes.. then thought about how the hell I was going to do it later!!

We look forward to Limpits release later this month on Soundcloud and to his releases that will be coming out early next year. Keep an eye out on his facebook for what he is getting up to.
