The Brakes are a Mancunian five piece indie rock band, revitalising the classic early 90s Manchester scene with their own twist, a fusion of original and catchy riffs built upon gutsy rhythm, and a plethora of ever growing influences from early Blues through to Kasabian and the contemporaries of Madchester.
With a dual lead singer-lead guitar combination fronting the band through Adam and Paul (AKA Magic), the live performances keep the audience on their toes, and bring a refreshing change from the norm. The band is completed by Marcus (rhythm guitar), Jamie (bass guitar) and Si (drums).
Bolstering live performances at St Helens rugby ground in front of over 10,000 people and live on Sky Sports, amongst support slots at iconic venues such as Manchester Academy and Camden’s Dublin Castle for Dust Junkies, Doctor and the Medics, Angie Brown, and Freak Party (the original incarnation of The Smiths), the band have been building an ever growing reputation in and around the unsigned scene in the North West and beyond.
A Mike Bennett (famed for his work with Ian Brown, The Fall, and The Specials amongst many others) remix of debut single, ‘Allforgotten’ with Angie Brown’s stunning vocals, entered the US Billboard dance chart in the summer of 2017 and was played in the bars of Ibiza and Tenerife amongst other major scenes.
Radio play includes Radio X, Real Radio XS, FAB International Radio and Soho Radio – with future playlist commitments for stations as far afield as Japan and South Korea in 2018, via Soho’s Long Lunch Records. And the band boasts Rick Witter (Shed Seven), Dermo (Northside), and Terry Christian (unconfirmed, but he follows us on twitter!) amongst it’s ever growing fanbase.
But ultimately it is the live shows which have created the buzz around the band, promoting comparisons to Oasis in their heyday, and U2 (possibly just due to Magic’s sunglasses, but we’ll take the credit however it comes!).
With big things planned for 2018, The Brakes are the future of Mancunian rock and roll!
