The One Ensemble "Saint Seven" Album Launch + Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
The One Ensemble bring their post-punk orchestral folk back to The Glad Cafe to launch their new album ‘Saint Seven’ - a dramatic 40-minute composition that moves between stark minimalism and full-bodied energy, interweaving elements of folk, chamber, improvised and experimental music along its way.
“A kaleidoscopic collision...sounds like absolutely no-one else.” (Brainwashed)
The One Ensemble are an acoustic quartet comprising of Daniel Padden, Alex South, Shane Connolly and Peter Nicholson, who can be heard beyond the band in Volcano The Bear, Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, Scottish Clarinet Quartet, Issho Taiko, Collective Endeavours…
Recent work includes ‘Miann’ - a collaboration with Scottish Dance Theatre, which featured music from Saint Seven, and was performed in the UK, Mexico and Brazil.
“A delightfully non-uptight contemporary music ensemble, albeit one with a Lewis Carroll tinge... improvisatory, playful yet meditative at the same time – this is post-Cardew chamber music, as performed by the Walrus and the Carpenter.” (The Wire)
"Gorgeous, twisted amalgams of European and American ethnic musics, free jazz, chamber music, minimalism and experimental plateaus rarely glimpsed in the western world" (Womblife)
‘Saint Seven’ will be available to buy at the show, on vinyl LP and download.
