The Dylema Collective is an 8 month-old “spoken-soul” poetry-music project that consists of Dylema, our award-nominated poet, Toby Coe as bassist, Andrey Novikov on keys and Daniel Smithson on percussion. We love with a passion all things Neo-Soul, Contemporary Jazz and floaty R&B – and we carefully blend those sounds with a cross-over of Funk, Latin and poly-rhythmic grooves, spoken-word poetry and harmonies from our gospel backing-vocals quartet. Thematically, our feminist poetry addresses head on matters of race, gender and individuality, values reiterated by the hidden message within our name’s acronym: “Do You. Let Every Man Adapt”. In short, we love sharing music and poetry – along with our penchants for body glitter and cross-dressing - that truly makes your brain and booty dance!
After initial sold-out shows at Studio 92, Stoke Newington and the Goddess Fest over the summer, we have just completed several exciting dates this past autumn. These have included performing as an opening act for Lemar at the Liverpool Soulfest; presenting our work at the UK Entertainment Awards; gigging at both London's Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and The Victoria and Albert Museum; participating in 4 London Sofar Sounds concerts; and headlining the inaugural London showcase by the award-winning Brainchild Arts Festival.
After curating and headlining a final, sold-out 2016 show in December at The Bedroom Bar, The Dylema Collective have begun preparing for 2017 with earnest! With our first single due out in March, we will be supporting that with a Sofar Sounds U.K Tour, a headline slot at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and shows at acclaimed London venues The Union Chapel, The Rich Mix and Jazz Café throughout the Spring. We’re also really looking forward to our two already-confirmed Summer Festivals of 2017 – Lost Cove and Brainchild.
Above all, we just loving bringing the most care-free summer happiness possible to idyllic festivals and connecting with their audiences through our hard-to-resist grooves and inspiring, uplifting poetry. We love to help challenge people's preconceptions, encourage them to loosen their inhibitions and just smile, sing and boogy freely! We feel proud to be creating something different - a blend of art that has resonated with and touched all those who have heard it so far through its jazz harmonies, Neo-soulful ambiance, intricate Latin and Funk.
