The Blues Spiders are a Southend-on-Sea based band who have taken forward the blues and r 'n 'b heritage from such ‘Thames Delta’ acts as Mickey Jupp and Dr Feelgood.
The line-up is Mitch Greaves (Harp & Vocals), Paul Henshaw (Bass), Russ Cottee (Guitars & Vocals) and Bob Clouter (Drums – ex-Mickey Jupp Band, Chicken Shack & Robin Trower).
Rather than serve up the same old menu of covers, the Blues Spiders play their own compositions, which draw on Chicago blues and swing, with a side-order of swampy Southern slide plus a few classics thrown in.
The band began in earnest in 2014 and in this short time has achieved the following: -
· 2nd CD “Two” released in January 2016 - entered the IBBA airplay chart at #21 and made the IBBA ‘Picks of the Month’ for March 2016. #6 in the March ’16 Chart. · Debut CD ‘All My Fault’ appeared in the UK Blues Radio airplay chart for 3 consecutive months. Tracks played across the UK, Europe and US blues stations · Regular performers at music venues across Essex, including the much sought after Railway Hotel, Southend, The New Crawdaddy Club, Blues At The Farm and the Boom Boom Club · Appeared alongside the Mickey Jupp Band, The Sharpees and Red Butler · Performed a live session for The Blues Is Back radio programme · Performed in the 2014 Blues in the City Festival (on the same bill as Robin Bibi, Stray, Red Butler and others), plus other minor festivals. · Co-Headlined the 2015 Essex Delta Blues Festival, headlining the 2016 event · Appeared at the 2015 Brownstock festival, The Fling and The Dover White Cliffs Blues Festival + others TBC. 2016 Boogaloo Blues South Downs weekend. · On the roster of regular performers at the legendary Ain’t Nothin’ But blues bar in Kingly Street, Soho.
