Dan and Tord started making music together after they met at LIPA in Liverpool back in 2003 when they formed The Wombats with Murph. With a few side projects under their belts since then, this new band, Sunship Balloon, sees them experiment with everything from electronica to psychedelia and indie-pop to alternative rock.

Their first EP, Intergalactic Teacup Travel Centre, was written, recorded and produced by Tord and Dan in between Oslo and London.

Musically and stylistically all the songs are quite different so they wanted someone to mix the EP who could pull everything together sonically and make it sound cohesive. John Congleton (Alvvays, St. Vincent, War On Drugs, Angel Olsen) has worked with such a broad spectrum of styles they felt he was a perfect match. Mastering duties were carried out by John Davis (The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Gorillaz).

They say of their first EP, ‘Intergalactic Teacup Travel Centre came from those many moments when you’re sitting in your lounge on a grey morning but inside your head, you are in fact on a distant planet during a meeting of overthinkers anonymous looking back at the earth, chewing the cud of modern life as multiple trains of thought collide at a strangely run station.’ Amongst other things, their songs touch on our often self destructive nature but how we fight against it and try to turn it into something beautiful, social media, consumerism, relationships, mental health, environmental issues and how many of our systems always seem to put money and growth ahead of pretty much anything.

They are currently putting the final touches to their 1st album, as of yet untitled, which they wrote and recorded over the summer of 2019. John Congleton is once again on mix duties. It is due for release in the first half of 2020 with some live shows to follow.
