A distinctive and fresh new sound; vocally, musically and lyrically, is exactly what makes Rina Mushonga stand out. Her music draws you in gently before sweeping you up in a whirlwind of vocal layerings, dreamy synths, complex rhythms and wailing guitar lines with songs that pack an anthemic punch.
Her roots (born in India, Dutch/Zimbabwean parents and raised in London, Zimbabwe and currently based in Amsterdam) have contributed to Rina's eclectic musical approach and international perspective. Her songs deal with all manner of human interaction and emotion, intensely delivered with her unique and captivating voice.
It is partly because of this style and musical inspiration ranging from Kate Bush to Bon Iver and Paul Simon that Rina and her band travelled to the most south westerly point of Britain early 2013 to start recording the tracks that now make up her recently released debut album 'The Wild, The Wilderness'.
In a cold and drafty studio, an old renovated barn, the basis was formed for a stunning debut, recorded with producer Chris Bond (drummer and producer of Ben Howard).
