Pioneers Bio
Pioneers is a new up and coming band from Southampton. Having only recently performed their first gig in August at The Ageas Bowl, their first single Take Time has already caused a stir.
The up-beat indie track was selected by BBC Radio Solent Introducing in September to feature in their Saturday night Introducing feature. Within weeks of that, the band was then contacted by BBC Radio 1. Take Time was selected as Radio 1’s Introducing Track of the Week at the end of October.
On 2nd December the four-piece group released their debut EP – I’m not Alright, I’m Fine. They celebrated its release, by headlining at The Joiners in Southampton. The iconic venue has supported the band since it’s first gig back in August and the EP recent release show was a sell-out. The Joiners is close to the band’s hearts because of the pedigree of artists that have played there in the past. The band has also performed at Southampton’s 1865, Salisbury’s Music Box, Surya in Kings Cross London, the Junction 6 Beer and Music Festival at the Ageas Bowl in Hampshire. They will also be supporting rock and roll band, The Blockheads, at their forthcoming gig at O2 Academy Islington.
Pioneers, consists of Sam Watts (19) vocalist and guitarist, Charlie Flide (20) drummer, Toby Gathercole (19) lead guitarist and Bailey Sandom (19) bass guitarist. They all come from the New Forest near Southampton and have been friends since school.
Take Time has been a hit on all streaming sites, with 30,000 downloads currently on Spotify. The newly released EP is set to follow this success and has already received rave reviews.
The band is focusing on playing UK festivals in 2018, so they can continue promoting ‘I’m Not Alright, I’m Fine’. They are all Arctic Monkeys and Last Shadow Puppets fans and have been influenced by other artists such as the Libertines, Blossoms, Jamie T and Jake Bugg. The guys are also big fans of Alt-J, fronted by Southampton local Joe Newman and Sam has been following the recent success of Willie J Healey.
