Our songs have taken on a sea theme in recent times and one of our songs is Edge of the Map. AS we perform as a trio most of the time we have decided that Briar & Bramble suggests a duo but more accurately, we are a trio, plus with the sea themed songs we perform, we took the decision to choose a staple song Edge of the Map and make that our new name!
The inspiration for the song was from some time ago whilst watching Pirates of the Caribbean - the first movie. Whilst Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa clash swords in a moon lit cave, the shafts of moon light reveal the cursed, skeletal Barbossa. He utters the iconic phrase to Jack "You're off the edge of the map Jack, here there be monsters". I always loved the imagery of that line and wrote a song Edge of the Map around 2003. It wasn't recorded until 2018 when I visited Lukas Drinkwater's studio in Stroud and we worked on it together.
