Makala Cheung is a Singer, Songwriter and Producer from Knowle West, Bristol, UK. Makala blends Electronic Pop and Chinese tones, taking influences from R&B to Drum & Bass. Debut album 'River' and Cheung’s second album ‘Moon’ received rave reviews on international blogs and local print media. Singles have featured on stations across the globe, and her radio play to date includes BBC 1Xtra and BBC Introducing in the West.

Makala performed many headline and main stage slots in 2015 and 2016, including headlining the main stage at world famous Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, with her live electronic band. Previous performances include, Upfest, Shambala, Dot to Dot, Redfest, Brisfest, St Paul’s Carnival, Keynsham Festival and Bristol Harbourside Festival.

Cheung’s solo artist endeavour began in 2012, following a few years in an Urban/Pop duo and then featuring on local Hip-Hop and Grime tracks. Makala’s current influences include Banks, FKA Twigs, M.I.A, and Aaliyah, to name a few. Frequently referred to as reminiscent of Kate Bush and Madonna, Makala is also a Bristol Woman Magazine cover girl (launch edition) and one of Bristol’s first Happiness Champions.
