Collage presents:
Finlay Mackenzie Quartet
Entry Requirements: All welcome
Doors open 7pm. Music starts at 8pm.
At just 19 years old, Finlay Mackenzie has already established himself as one of the most exciting young drummers on the UK jazz scene. Whilst living in Scotland, he headlined the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival in both 2023 and 2025 with his quintet, as well as Glasgow Jazz Festival, Dundee Jazz Festival, Aberdeen Jazz Festival etc.
Since moving to London to study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, Finlay has built an international profile, with standout performances at the Umbria Jazz Festival and the Siena Jazz Showcase. His growing list of collaborators includes Walter Smith III, Phill Grenadier, Alex Sipiagin, corto.alto, Fergus McCreadie, Matt Carmichael, and Rasmus Sørenson.
As a finalist in the UK Young Drummer of the Year 2023 competition, Finlay has been recognised for his virtuosity and creativity behind the kit, also shown by his nomination in the 2025 Scottish Jazz Awards for the ‘Rising Star’ title. Beyond performing, he is also an innovative composer, performing sets of original work with his trio and quintet, and also a notable performance with Walter Smith III of Finlay’s “Song for Walter.”
With his quintet – including London jazz heavies George Johnson and Ferg Kilsby - and as a sideman, Finlay continues to develop a distinctive voice that blends maturity, finesse and forward-motion with his Scottish heritage — marking him out as one of the most promising talents in UK jazz.
