Nick Smart is an internationally acclaimed jazz trumpeter, conductor, educator, and Head of Jazz Programmes at the Royal Academy of Music. One of the UK's leading jazz figures, he has performed, taught, and given masterclasses around the world. His outstanding contribution to jazz education has been recognised with the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Education (2013), Honorary Membership of the Royal Academy of Music (2015), and a University of London Professorship (2022).

As a performer, Smart is in demand across generations, touring and recording with his own ensembles while collaborating with internationally renowned artists including George Russell, Dave Holland, Ingrid Jensen, Mike Gibbs, and the late Kenny Wheeler, with whom he enjoyed a long and distinguished musical partnership. His acclaimed recordings include Remembering Nick Drake, Remembering Louis Armstrong, and Tower Casa.

A passionate and influential educator, Smart founded the Royal Academy of Music Junior Academy Jazz programme and has played a pivotal role in raising the Academy's international jazz profile through initiatives such as the Kenny Wheeler Prize and the International Jazz Artist in Residence scheme.
