Written and performed by Bonnie Oddie, Directed by Steve Medlin, That's Why Mums go to Switzerland is a deeply loving and darkly comedic play, developed with the support of True Story London and Collage Arts.

Told through the eyes of a middle-aged woman grappling with a family in chaos, this solo show steps into an exploration of assisted dying with wit and disarming warmth.

At the heart of this story are "three generations of pissed-off women living together under one roof", tackling relationship breakdowns, teenage upheaval, dependency, love (whatever that is), sickness, a grieving mother openly preparing for the end, and of course the dog. Who knew everything... because dogs always know everything.

The UK has recently been engaged in important conversations around assisted dying. This is an opportunity to inform that conversation by supporting independent theatre that trusts its audiences to sit with complexity, nuance and conflicting truths.

It's absolutely thrilling for us to announce that That's Why Mums go to Switzerland has booked a full run with Underbelly Edinburgh for the Fringe festival this year.

Whilst this is an amazing opportunity, it is also a financial leap. We are aiming to raise upwards of £10,000 to get us (and the dog) to the Edinburgh Fringe festival 2026, and to do that we need support.

So, bring yourselves, your theatre loving friends, patrons of the arts, and anyone you think might be interested in seeing the work, and come join us at Collage Arts!

After the show there will be drinks and a conversation with the shows creators, where we would love to have your input.
