Tonight the trio will also be playing music by Oscar Pettiford , the double bass virtuoso and composer who led another sax~guitar~ bass trio, featuring Lucky Thompson on tenor sax .

A shared love of playing acoustically , and without drums , led Mark , Colin & Simon to form a trio to explore the music of the Jimmy Giuffre 3 . Performing pieces like The Train & The River, Gotta Dance & Crawdad Suite , Giuffre described his music as ‘ Swamp Jazz’ , an earthy mix of jazz and blues , with a hint of country and a ‘down-home’ feel .
