PART OF THE EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL

We are thrilled to present Celebrating Sonny Rollins with Art Themen and Karen Sharp for the EFG London Jazz Festival at Karamel!

A special Sunday afternoon of jazz celebrating Walter Theodore "Sonny" Rollins, widely recognised as one of the most important and influential jazz tenor saxophonists.

On stage will be a quintet with two great tenor saxophonists, Art Themen and Karen Sharp.
Themen is one of the best British saxophonists, known for his originality and individual style and references Sonny Rollins as one of his key influences.

“No one should pass up the chance of hearing Themen. He’s one of the very few totally original, and at the same time utterly engaging jazz musicians around.” *(The Guardian) *

"One of the tiny handful of undeniably perfect jazz musicians" (Observer)

Karen Sharp is a prominent figure on the UK Jazz scene, known and admired for her melodic, full tone saxophone playing; and British Jazz Award winner - Best Tenor Saxophonist (2019).

“Sharp loves melody, whether composed or improvised, as reflected in her relaxed and natural phrasing” *(Downbeat) *

Line-up: Art Themen (tenor saxophone), Karen Sharp (tenor saxophone), John Donaldson (piano), Amy Baldwin (bass), Dave Ingamells (drums).

Doors open 2pm, music from 3pm.
