Johnny Sly has developed as a musical project over the past few years from the down-tempo acoustic solo endeavours of lead singer and guitarist Jonny Heath, into a dynamic and unique fusion of jazz, rock, soul, folk and psychedelia. Each band member has brought new influences and ideas to the music, as well as instruments such as a harp and a trumpet, helping to create an original sound which has grown and changed over time.
We have recently self-released our first EP as a seven-piece band (we were still only four members when our two-track debut, Déjà Vu, was released in 2013), which includes five original tracks and two remixes by our trumpet player and head producer, Jack Davies. The EP, entitled Lost Thoughts, is available for listening, downloading and buying through the links below (there is also a lovingly home-made music video to our single, Peace of Mine, on the YouTube channel!):

Johnny Sly has been heavily involved with Manchester's live alternative music scene since 2012, playing at prominent venues such as Deaf Institute, Roadhouse, and Manchester Academy. We also play many low-fi gigs held in living rooms and basements throughout the city - one of our favorite things to do, 'because everyone listens so nicely'! All of our gigs and news are posted on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/johnnyslymusic
Since releasing Lost Thoughts EP in December 2014, we have performed live on the BBC Radio 4 programme Loose Ends (link below). Tracks from the EP have also been played on BBC Radio London, BBC Introducing Manchester, Under The Radar and Stockport's Roots & Fusion Radio.
The close friendships between the members of Johnny Sly are an important part of our existence as a band: resembling more of a family than a professional enterprise, the majority of us live under one roof and we have a habit of referring to ourselves as 'the Slys'. Our bond as a group enhances both our music-making and our live performances - we always enjoy playing together!
We are currently working on lots of new material, and intend to keep ourselves busy playing gigs in Manchester and London over the next few months.
We hope to see you soon.
