Formed in 2012 in tiny Cornwall’s only city; Truro. Hypophora are a fierce female fronted Alt Rock/Post Hardcore outfit with a chaotic live show and an infatuation for genre blending furore.
Described as "A barrage of rock, hardcore, punk and funk influences.” (Cornwall Music Seen). The band has received great praise and airplay from the likes of BBC Introducing, Mike James Rock Show as well as other press, and radio alike (Clunk Mag, Louder Than War, Distorted sound, Vulture Hound and more) and were given the “Best Song” award for ‘Youth’ by West Briton editor Lee Trewhela at the 2015 TCMAs.
Having shared bills with some of the most revered Alt Rock bands in Europe at the moment (VANT, Sløtface, TIGERCUB, Allusondrugs, Acres & many more) the band have also supported US post-hardcore giants HE IS LEGEND, Kurt Travis (Ex-Dance Gavin Dance) & Andres. Hypophora recently supported VANT on the SOLD OUT Exeter date of their final farewell tour & Thank You Scientist on the London date of their UK tour.
The band have also gathered some impressive festival appearances this year such as UK Tech Fest, Techabilitation, Free For All, Boardmasters, Looe Festival and more.
Standing on the front lines and pushing the boundaries of the underground alternative scene in the South West, Hypophora regularly see packed out headline shows that prove a dedicated fan base are backing their every move.
FOR FANS OF RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, FOO FIGHTERS, THE FALL OF TROY & MARMOZETS.
"Performing with a hearty stage presence, the band shine a beacon of colour into the venue with a noteworthy set that displays their unique quirks" - Vulture Hound Magazine.
“A blistering live act in their native Cornwall. Combining the technical expertise of Red Hot Chilli Peppers with a surfeit of youthful energy and the assured vocals of Katie McConnell. Dispensing with the Chilli Peppers’ frat-boy machismo, Hypophora proffer a highly skillful and melodic take on punk-funk and 90s alt-rock, with Karum Cooper supplying perfectly-judged guitar heroics and Lewis Pilcher bringing the funk on bass.” - Louder Than War
“HYPOPHORA kick things off with an extremely competent show that is as dynamic as it is energetic. A wonderful blend of hard rock and punk with just a touch of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS-esque funk, they attack the stage with vigour and have no trouble filling the room as the set progresses.” - Distorted Sound Magazine
"The band flirt with commercialism whilst at the same time feature experimental technical guitar playing and interesting song dynamics that often feel heavy enough to have an alternative audience but without ever being too offensive for your mum to like either" - Cornwall Music Seen
"A clattering, rambunctious racket with power and finesse in equal measure" - Listen With Monger
