Featured Bands:
Dukes
Dukes perform original indie material and sold out their show at HURSTfolk's 2023 edition. Having been together since around 2017, Dukes formed purely for the enjoyment of making loud, energetic music together. The band comprises Matt Poole on vocals, who has a background in Brighton bands from the late 90s onwards, plus a Brighton-based gospel choir; Steve Hartley on bass, formerly of a band based in Wakefield that was signed in the early 2000s; Kevin Hall on lead guitar, a pedal fanatic who has played in Brighton bands since the late 90s; Liam Dackombe on rhythm guitar, previously of The Rivers, who toured with bands like The Kooks in the mid/late 2000s; and Barney Hall on drums, who has been drumming since a very early age and also plays for local band Room 3. Dukes' influences span indie, soul, dub, country, and psych-rock, drawing inspiration from artists like The Coral, Gang of Four, and Primal Scream.
Support: The Dream Escape
The Dream Escape was formed in Hurstpierpoint in 1990 by a group of 15-year-old school friends, and their first ever gig was on the High Street. They went on to play numerous gigs in the following years in Brighton and across Sussex, as well as further afield, including venues like the Mean Fiddler and Rock Garden in London. Their performances featured an ear-splitting eclectic mix of self-penned indie-rock numbers inspired by the likes of The House of Love, Wedding Present, and U2. Though they formally disbanded in 1996, they remain close friends, meet up to practice now and then, and perform the odd gig for special occasions like 40th (and now 50th!) birthdays. The band members are drummer Matt Burton (born in Hurstpierpoint), guitarist/vocalist Dan Print, guitarist Sam Lawson (grew up in Hurstpierpoint), and bassist Joe Pepler. Their manager, Lee Tite (born in Hurstpierpoint), runs the local pet supplies shop.
Venue Highlight: The New Inn
The New Inn, established over 570 years ago, is a historic pub in Hurstpierpoint known for its charming blend of old and new. With a Georgian façade and a history that includes a haunted cellar, it offers a unique atmosphere. The 1/3 acre beer garden is a hidden gem, perfect for enjoying the excellent food and drink. The New Inn promises a warm welcome, great beer, wine, and food.
Come join us for a night of fantastic local music, community spirit, and a wonderful atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you there!
