Halem (pronounced “hay-lum”) are a Liverpool-based electro-pop band. The group features vocalist Katy Bryson, keyboardist/drummer Reece Cairns and keyboardist/vocalist Jiwon Chung.

The band met at Sir Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA - graduates include The Wombats, Dan Croll, St Lucia, etc). Liverpudlian Katy, and Mancunian Reece, both met in their first year of study in 2013, whilst Jiwon’s LIPA studies started in 2011 but lasted only a year before being called into his national service in his home country, South Korea. He returned to Liverpool after a 2 year interval to continue his studies, which is when he met with Katy and Reece. The trio then formed as a band in December 2014, only as a university project at first, but they exceeded their own expectations and showed lots of potential, thus becoming more of a potential future career.

Songwriters Katy and Reece are influenced by acts such as Chvrches, AlunaGeorge, M83, Disclosure and Muse. The band record and produce their music themselves in their bedrooms and with the help of LIPA facilities.

The band are currently managing themselves and are patiently waiting before releasing an ‘official’ single or EP but have released a selection of Soundcloud demos with each track titled by a number instead of a word or phrase. The number assigned to each song relates to however many song ideas they’ve had - for example “60”, by Halem, was Katy & Reece’s 60th idea for a song. Their decision to do this adds more curiosity to their already mysterious/vintage image.

In 2015, Halem performed in the North-West under the likes of big promoters such as SJM Concerts, EVOL, MAMA and Scruff Of The Neck Records, as well as several features with BBC Introducing, thus managing to attract interest from Modest! Management and Atlantic Records. In 2016, Halem have already secured a partnership with specialised lighting company Neon Creations Ltd and are looking to expand further through tours, London shows, fashion sponsorships and by developing relationships with record labels.
