Growing up in a small village in Wiltshire, Gus White began his career as a choir boy, discovering his passion for music at an early age. Performing in bands of varying genres through his teens, he would always take the role of lead vocal, inspiring him to begin writing songs. Gus moved to Belfast in 2013 to study Sonic Arts at Queen’s University, where he developed his song writing and sound. Influenced by Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake, it is perhaps unsurprising that Gus’ sound is rooted in acoustic music. The more experimental aspects to his sound were developed at university through his interest in electroacoustic music. Fusing his songs with acousmatic elements, he spent a year writing and recording his debut EP in Belfast and at his home studio in Wiltshire. The result is a beautifully crafted EP based on a dream diary that Gus kept whilst recording.
In Gus's own words: “True Really Do Come Dreams is a concept EP that follows the journey of a dreamer through a night’s sleep, exploring the scenes and stories from my own dream diary, and the questions surrounding them. The idea is that it will not be released on CD or Vinyl, but in the form of a dream diary. The book contains lyrics and beautiful illustrations, but is largely left blank for the listener to begin to write down their own dreams...”
