What's On About Blog

THANK YOU! Oct 16, 2019

As the dust settles on our glorious festival, we just wanted to write a note of thanks to everyone who came and played and watched some truly brilliant music! Everyone was a joy to work with and everyone was respectful, kind and created a really lovely atmosphere at all the shows. We can't thank you enough.

Some big shout outs to all the acts that played - Vanishing Twin, Fenella, Modern Studies, Pictish Trail and Callum Easter who kicked off the weekend with an unreal lineup that was also part of Lost Map Records Lost Weekender. Massive thanks also to Fire Records for their help in putting us in touch with Vanishing Twin and Fenella.

C Duncan, Jonnie Common, Lavinia Blackwall & Stilton, Ben Chatwin and Robin Adams played beautiful sets at The Glad Cafe on Saturday with Cru Servers, Heather Leigh and The Two Monarchs shaking the walls of the Pollok Ex-Servicemen's Club on Saturday.

Speaking of the Ex-Servicemen's Club - I want to thank their staff so much for being so accommodating and friendly and, as Jamie Scott said on Sunday, for providing the best pint of Tennents in the world! The venue is second only to our own as far as favourite gig spaces is concerned.

We eased into Sunday with Robert Sotelo blowing us away along with Jamie Scott and Faith Eliott at the Ex-Servicemen's then back to the cafe with throbbing bass tones and stunning visuals courtesy of Tommy Perman followed by a rollicking set from Jill Lorean and her band then Andrew Wasylyk soothed us with his beautiful piano-led arrangements and Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18 spoiled us by ending the festival in the best possible way! Their tropicalia-infused pop, played impeccably put the icing on the cake of a beautiful weekend.

I want to say a big thanks to Alistair Braidwood at Scots Whay Hae, Jamie Scott and Sophie Battye for being ever present at the shows and giving much needed encouragement.

Kim from The Glad Cafe was a trooper as always, keeping the good ship Glad running when I was setting PA's up, etc down at the Ex-Servicemen's and our tremendous sound engineers, Craig and Gav, had everyone sounding perfect! What a team.

Also big thanks to Rachel and Iona Smillie and Eilidh Muir for helping on the door.

None of this would have been possible without the funding and support from Jamie Houston and all at Creative Scotland so love and hugs to them. Good to see them at the shows too.

Here are a bunch of pics from the weekend:

...last thank you is reserved to this guy who played every night at Glorious Traces, racking up 4 gigs in 3 days with Modern Studies, Ben Chatwin, Andrew Wasylyk and Jonnie Common... while travelling up and down every day from Perth... ladies and gentlemen, I give you the outrageous, wonderful, lovely and talented; Pete Harvey!

Glorious Traces 2019! Oct 2, 2019

So, we're almost there! Glorious Traces is next week and we're delighted with the final programme of acts. The event will take place from next Friday 11th October and will end on Sunday 13th.

We couldn't have done this without the support of Creative Scotland so we have to thank them and their Open Project Fund for the financial help that has helped keep the ticket price low for you guys to enjoy such an amazing lineup!

Here is that lineup!

Friday night sees us team up with our friends at Fire Records and Lost Map with an incredible bunch of acts from their rosters! This night is part of Lost Map's Lost Weekender!

Vanishing Twin Jane Weaver presents Fenella Modern Studies The Pictish Trail Callum Easter!

Then on Saturday we'll kick off at The Glad Cafe with a couple of acts close to our hearts:

Robin Adams Lavinia Blackwall & Stilton

We'll then move to the excellent surroundings of Pollok Ex-Servicemen's Club - which, if you didn't know is just across the road from Crossmyloof Train Station. There, we're lucky to have some of the most exciting names in the Glasgow experimental and free scenes!

Cru Servers (12th Isle) Heather Leigh The Two Monarchs (Richard Youngs & Tony Bevan)

We'll then reconvene at The Glad and finish off the evening with a trio of acts that blend organic acoustic sounds with electronics in very different and exciting ways.

C Duncan Jonnie Common Ben Chatwin

It'll be special.

Sunday opens at Pollok Ex-Servicemen's with fantastic indie acts:

Robert Sotelo band Jamie Scott Faith Eliot band.

The whole weekender will come to an end at The Glad Cafe with some lovely Sunday vibes!

Tommy Perman Jill Lorean Andrew Wasylyk (minimal piano set) Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18

It's gonna be special and we'd love you to join us for it! Tickets are on this website and only £20 for a weekender ticket which I think you'll agree is completely mental!!!

Check out these videos of the exceptional acts we, and hopefully you, will be enjoying over the weekend.
