'Five Days North have more than hint of White Lies / Joy Division about them' - Manchester Evening News

'Pop rock with a folk charm, the quintet creates a marvel of light dancing melodies.' – Getintothis

For many, Manchester is a city synonymous with the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. It was a cultural boom time for the city, and one which gave rise to a handful of now-legendary bands that have since gone down in the history books. That was 30 years ago, however. Times change. And while there will always be an army of bands in bucket hats trying to recreate that era, for every carbon copy there’s a band trying to break the mould.

This is where Five Days North come in.

Having started life five years ago as a folk-pop band, the quintet have gradually evolved into the encompassing and emotionally charged outfit they are today. Bringing with them their heart-on-their-sleeve lyricism (and leaving behind the electric banjo), the band have released a smattering of singles and EPs that have turned heads and broken hearts both in their native Manchester and further afield. Though it’s not just their records that have won them fans.

Festival appearances at the likes of Dot2Dot Festival and Kendal Calling have seen their fanbase widen; their anthemic indie-pop the perfect soundtrack to a weekend in the fields. It’s headline shows at iconic venues such as Manchester’s Academy 3 and Gorilla that have also been integral to the band’s ascent- previous singles such as the frenetic Stranger Signs filling venues with ecstatic crowd reactions.

At a time when the country seems to be in something of a tail-spin, Five Days North's own inimitable brand of indie-pop provides the perfect antithesis to a climate of fear and uncertainty; their inherent upbeat optimism embodied perfectly within shimmering guitar lines and button bright electronics. Eschewing the indie-rock swagger harboured by much of their contemporaries, Five Days North are a breath of fresh air.
