Firewoodisland is the alias of Bristol based Norwegian/Welsh multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Stian Vedøy and Abi Eleri. Their emotive and dynamic vocal harmonies together with the morphing of organic and digital instruments, creates an atmospheric soundscape that is moving yet striking.
In 2010, Norwegian songwriter and producer Stian Vedøy moved to Cardiff, UK. He started a solo project called Firewoodisland (‘Vedøy’ translated into English), while studying for a masters in music production. Shortly after, he was joined by illustrator and songwriter Abi Eleri who is responsible for Firewoodisland’s distinctive artwork. A coming together of fellow like-minded musicians, followed by a regional win in Norway’s Bandwagon Battle of the Bands in 2013 saw a solo project gaining a live band. A debut EP, called “ILD”, quickly followed in early 2014.
After the release of their debut EP, FWI started touring the UK with whistle player Aveen Cooley and drummer Steve Allen. They were titled Welsh artist of the week by BBC Wales and picked up praise from the likes of Q Magazine, Amazing Radio, and BBC Introducing. In 2016 whey saw the release of 2nd EP “Dome”, featuring bassist Rowan Talbot, multi-instrumentalist Dylan Jones, and drummer Steve Allen, who also was a part of releasing debut Album, “Chaos Is The State Of Heart” in 2018. Both releases picked up love from BBC 6Music, and magazines like Clash, The 405, Earmilk and saw them play BBC introducing stage at Latitude, supporting Bear’s Den on Record Store day and headlining Norway’s Vikedal Roots Music Festival.
In 2019 Firewoodisland is turning a new chapter with new music in the pipeline and a new duo multi-instrumentalist live arrangement.
