Vocalist / songwriter / musician Emily Burns (21), burst onto the Hype Machine chart in 2015, with her self penned track HomeWrecker shooting to the top of the chart from nowhere.
Such a result would usually indicate the hand of a major label or high profile management company, but Emily’s success was the sole result of a blogger (Breaking More Waves) posting her track, after he saw her perform at the introducing stage at T in the Park. The pick up was amazing, and the track shot towards the top of the charts. Emily however was not distracted by this early buzz and carried on writing music, with her eyes firmly on a publishing and recording deal. Now with interest rapidly arising from publishers and labels and plans for a single PR campaign and EP release, Emily is certainly an artist to keep on your radar this year.
Emily Burns makes R&B / Pop, drawing on mainstream 90-00s production/influences like TLC, Brandy, Amy Winehouse and Lauren Hill whilst also sitting comfortably in contemporary Pop (Jessie Ware, Grimes, Tori Kelly, Adele) and future R&B genres, alongside artists she admires like Frank Ocean, Nao and Ray Blk.
Co-writes with top industry songwriters followed including: Jimmy Hogarth (Sia, Amy Winehouse), Jon Green (Jack Savoretti, James Bay), Jim Irvin (Lana Del Ray, Pixie Lott), Julian Emery (McFly, Nothing But Thieves), Dan McDougall (Will Young, Aurora), Blair Mackichan (Sia and Lily Allen) Rachel Furner (Little Mix), Edd Holloway (Saint Raymond, Gabrille Aplin) as well as a number of self penned tracks. Currently developing her live sound with producers and engineers who she met whilst working at Abbey Road studios, Emily Burns is fast progressing into one of the most exciting performing and recording artists around, with huge potential, poised for success.

“’Counting Seconds’ finds Emily wanting to reconcile a relationship after everything’s gone wrong. “When I’m not mad anymore, and I’m not angry like before, I wonder if you’ve gotten over this too,” she ponders before she hits the subtle but show-stopping chorus. With its quiet layered harmonies, gentle beat and soft keys this ballad of sad desire, of wanting to get back together, is the prettiest thing we’ve heard all week”. Breaking More Waves
