Singer – songwriter, remixer and producer, Emeson returns with a brand new EP entitled Bespoke.
Throw in three independent albums (Audiocentricities, Equilibrium, extraSolar*), several EP’s, a clutch of universal collaborations and front man stints in several bands (LifeSize, Birth of Mankind, The One, Saturn's Children) and it almost makes the word 'return' seem fairly redundant as he's always shape-shifting in some solo or collaborative guise.
Comfortable either as a producer, remixer and none more so than as a singer - songwriter, Emeson navigates cosmic hip stops and soul speak - easies, delivering a made to measure time capsule of musical relevance.
Emeson first appeared sonically as an original member of the group Lifesize, alongside producer/singer-songwriter Uzo Madu (Beya Records) and jazz/soul session musician Chris Jerome (Julian Joseph, Courtney Pine) contributing writing and performing on tracks such as ‘Awake’ and ‘Is This The World We Live In’(Gangster Records)
His early memories of music include hanging out, playing eight-track cartridges in his dad’s Volkswagen Hatchback and listening to the sound systems along the streets on summer days, music as varied as Jimmy Cliff, the Upsetters, Pioneers and James Brown right through to Don Williams, Steely Dan, Booker T & the MG’s, The Jackson 5, The Sylvers, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles and Miles Davis. Further influences include John Foxx, Kraftwerk, Kleeer and the legendary Curtis Mayfield.
The Bittersoul EP (2004), Audiocentricities download album (2006) , Connect EP and Equilibrium were all born within his Lab Soulphonica hideout. In-between all this he would dj at various spots and promote his own themed nights. Over the years as a dj he has been a dj resident and guest in many quarters, alongside ‘keepers of the sound’ Bobby & Steve, Norman Jay, Touch of Class, Mark One and many other dj luminaries.
These musical excursions have led emeson to produce, guest, remix, feature and write for artists such as the one and only legendary Peter Gabriel (Shock the Monkey Emeson Remix), the colossal jazz great Chico Hamilton (Language Universal), photo-muso-journo Mariu (Venezuela, Eugenia), myspace chart topping lounge – lizard Yamasaki – Something Deeper and several international artists including Don Cuco (Sundrop), Karma Sound (Mahe), Drum Drama (Misery) and Cain from the beat creative Arkestra (Now You, SuperGirl) , feature and tour as vocalist for the electronic soul band, The One supporting the likes of Quadron and playing live at numerous venues including Shunt, Cargo, Catch, The Old Blue Last and Ronnie Scotts.
Emeson returned in 2012 with an intergalactic double album entitled extraSolar* on 24thCenturyRecords. Acclaimed and well received by the Soultronic fraternity, tracks like ’Supernova, Sun-Ra and ‘I Have Come To Love You’ have been played extensively from London to LA.
2013 saw Emeson in collaboration mode with Skandouz (Soldier), Joe London (Morning To Night) and several other musicians whose material will be released in 2014. As part of the Saturn’s Children ensemble as songwriter and vocalist, with the amazing turntablist, producer and beatmaker Karmasound, Emeson embarked on a tour covering Spain and Portugal. A soul beat man at heart, Emeson now presents more solo material with the searing, soulsearching Bespoke EP. Bespoke features five sartorial tracks encompassing Emeson's musical influences, range and ultimate style. Pan-Afro beats, serious soul, nouveaux jazz and energetic electronic touches all come together ; naturally made to measure. On the celluloid side, Emeson has been featured either as a composer or a support artist / actor in feature films, short films, videos and commercials. A few of the films and features Emeson has been involved include the following ; 'A Look to Kill' ; Dir Obinna Nwsou, 'Best Friends Forever' - Dir. Kathy Kostova, 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' - [Dir. James Gunn. Marvel Films] , 'Avengers' - Marvel Films, 'The One - Double Life'. [Dir. Phil Whitby] [Video], 'The View' - Dir. Wandsworth Reach.
