DVKES’ (pronounce as ‘dukes’) sound has never been more confident than on their new album named ‘We Finally Pushed Through’. It has been three years since their first EP ‘Let me go into the wild’, produced by Johannes Verschaeve (The Van Jets), including three singles (‘Happy’, ‘Lucy Called My Name’ and ‘Dirty D’), has been released and recommended by Belgian music magazine Humo. Now DVKES are ready for the real deal. The ‘rebellious and obstinate’ band (dixit Cutting Edge) decided to work together with producer Mario Goossens, drummer of famous Belgian rock band Triggerfinger, who also produced the records of other Belgian rock bands like Steak Number Eight and Black Box Revelation. They retreated themselves in his house on the Flemish countryside and did not come out until the album was ready. As a result of this close cooperation, lead singer and guitarist Joos Houwen (Helsinki, Statue, The Tellers), bass player Pieter-Jan Janssen (Psycho 44), guitarist Maxim Helincks (Stavroz, Statue) and drummer Antoni Foscez (Go March) can proudly present their debut album. The catchy groove, recognizable guitar sound and contagious lyrics remained on top of a sometimes neo-psychedelic flow resulting in a robust group album (all songs and lyrics by DVKES), which has undoubtedly been influenced by fellow label members Bed Rugs as you can hear for instance in ‘Apoca-Lips’. DVKES have not only been influenced by the power pop, indie rock and Britpop of groups like Arctic Monkeys but also by niche genres such as krautrock. ‘The Boy Who Cries Wolf’ and ‘We Finally Pushed Through’ are two immersive highlights on a powerful album. One thing should be clear: DVKES are unstoppable and their strong debut couldn’t be more impressive.
