Nostalgic Daydream 1#

Forest Fires is a song about stunting your own growth by focussing on past events, and what scares you about the future. It's about staying stagnant, when you know you should be moving forward. It's about trying to give up, but being fought by that strange warm feeling you get when you hang in there and push through the anxiety.

Sometimes it's good to get angry with yourself, because only you make the change.

I was a strange kid. I’d rush into a sandpit and start digging, then cry when my hands were dirty and uncomfortable. I’d tell a joke in front of a crowd of family friends, then recoil and become insecure when I thought they were laughing at me. I sought after adventure, but shied away from even talking to people I didn’t already know well. I was a living, breathing contradiction. I still am.

I want to create things that make people feel something. But instead I hide them away, so no one ever hears. No more. This playlist is where I make the change. Over the next few months, I’m going to be releasing some demos of songs that I’m privately proud of, but terrified of sharing. I’ve spent the last few years of my life trying to tweak and edit my material into perfection, whilst unknowingly driving them into nonexistence. These recordings aren’t perfect. They’re not finished. I’m not sure they ever will be. But before moving on to new works, I have to make peace with past ones.

This playlist is called ‘nostalgic daydream’. I hope you like it. But mostly, I hope it would make this kid proud.
