Crybaby Special are a band that carry a clear message “Let’s celebrate those brave enough to remain different in a world where people are regularly shamed for being themselves. I spent my entire childhood thinking I was a total freak. Turns out I couldn’t have been more right, we’re all freaks and that’s a good thing. I just didn’t realise that growing up”. Crybaby Special’s sound remains true to their message with the majority of promoters describing the band as “unique” or “quirky”. One reviewer described the sound as “If Madness wrote the theme tune to Nightmare Before Christmas”. This description cleverly captures the band’s spooky but fun sound, however the band believe the closest anyone has come to describing them is by using the term “Gypsy Rock”. Their influences include Captain Beefheart, The Specials, Madness, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac and Gogol Bordello. Crybaby Special’s past shows include supporting Tom Hingley (Inspiral Carpets), Pete Doherty at the Torriano (Camden), Babyshambles at Brixton Jamm (Brixton) and Maximo park at Dreamland, Margate.
