David Gilmour is the master of melody with space. The secret to Gilmours technique is in the spaces left between notes and phrases. With out actually copying Davids guitar work very few guitarists achieve this wonderful balance.
My first and greatest influence was Jimi Hendrix and as a teenager I would lock myself away and emulate the great guitar player. In my early twenties I started to understand the importance of holding back and using the concept of space in my guitar playing.
Echoes from the album Meddle was the track that really inspired me to take a step back and rethink my guitar playing as a whole.
In this video you can clearly see how David Gilmour has inspired my guitar playing.
The music you are hearing here is a creation that I recorded and played all the instruments, playing and recording the drums first then laying down each part. I use the Floyd sound as a reference to get a great mix and hopefully music that will have a big effect on the listener. To draw you in and take you on a musical journey. Like later Floyd I use very little words.
So I think it would be fair to say that David Gilmours guitar sound and style has had a huge effect on and influences many guitar players and producers with in the Rock Genre.
Here is another video this time the opening track from my latest Album "Angels Share".
Again this album was recorded with just me playing all the instruments.
