Cary Grace

Somerset based singer, songwriter, producer, and analogue synth genius, Cary Grace has been rapidly building a reputation as one of the must see acts during 2016. Cary, who hails from South Carolina, has been enthralling audiences with her unique sound, which, whilst wonderfully original, has overtones of classic festival bands such as Gong, as well as some of the more experimental German bands from the 1970s.

Cary’s rapid ascent in the UK music scene is no surprise; her enthralling and dizzying array of music, from psychedelic and electronic infused pop to swirling spaced out improvised instrumentals, has caught the attention of many established artists, resulting in her sharing the stage with some of the most respected musicians from the alternative and much missed free festival era of the 1970s and early 1980s. This year saw Cary increasing her popularity even further by playing festivals such as Kozfest, and performing live with some of the musicians who have played on her albums, including former Gong and Here & Now guitarist Steffe Sharpstrings, as well as another Gong regular, jazz violinist, Graham Clark.

The Cary Grace Band are a real experience to watch, and with her recently released live album, The Uffculme Variations, being so well received, it would seem that 2017 could be the year that Cary Grace gets the acknowledgement she deserves.

On her latest studio album, Tygerland

"On TYGERLAND Grace is joined by veteran Here & Now/Planet Gong six-stringer Steffe Sharpstrings (aka prog’s answer to Hendrix), and the results are both eerie and electrifying. Even though much of the album was recorded live it still sounds structured and tightly woven. Highlights are the fierce, guitar-driven Cyanide, Grace channelling her near-namesake, Grace Slick, on the couplet ‘She peels poison apples/That’s it, open wide’; the minimalist Minimoog freakout that is Orange Sky; War Child, with its minacious, Doors-like groove; and epic improv Windsong, a tour-de-force of slow-burning intensity. (8/10)" —Geoff Barton, Classic Rock Magazine

"... it’s not about it being a record that’s like this, or like that… it’s one of the most singular, distinctive albums that I’ve been sent in quite a while, and any comparison is just to say that it has qualities that stand it along side musicians and records that have meant things across the years, it has that sort of lasting quality to it." —Ian Abrahams, Spacerock Reviews

New live album, The Uffculme Variations

(Recorded at Kozfest 2016 with Steffe Sharpstrings and Graham Clark.)

"THE UFFCULME VARIATIONS is a wonderful document of what would seem to be a pretty awesome live set. The music of Cary Grace is always a thing of wonder, but in a live setting there is an added vitality and spontaneity. To neatly pigeonhole Grace’s music into a category is nigh on impossible, but suffice it to say that anyone who loves progressive rock, psychedelia, space rock or psych folk with find something to love in this."Dayz of Purple and Orange
