Salford-born Ed Blaney first came to the attention of Steve Lamacq with his band Trigger Happy in the late 90s with Lamacq helping to get the band playlisted on BBC Radio 1. At this time Ed became a close friend and confident of The Fall's Mark E. Smith. Members of Trigger Happy, including Ed, joined The Fall with Ed becoming manager. He went on to produce, tour and revitalise The Fall with sell-out tours all across UK, Europe and the USA. Continuously wanting to evolve his music, Ed formed his new band Blaney and self-released their debut album Urban Nature in 2016 with Mark E. Smith featured on several tracks. BBC Radio 2’s Janice Long was instantly a fan and said of Urban Nature “What a fantastic album, I've played it three times today, amazing on every level.” Louder Than War’s John Robb was equally as enthusiastic saying “This is the kind of warped genius John Peel would have loved - 9/10” whilst Terry Christian praised Urban Nature for being “Worth the wait in every respect and puts the poseurs, careerists and erstwhile bedwetters that make up part of Manchester’s music scene to shame. Energy, passion, suss and thrust, it’s not just music, at times it’s pop mayhem. 9/10.” Blaney are continuing their relationship with The Fall and will be supporting them on some of their upcoming dates.
