My vision I write music to show the Father’s heart for mankind and the love of Jesus. I spent many years writing music about my problems and inward life but since finding God aged 24 my songs have changed to be all about Jesus and the relationship that God is inviting us to. I never thought I would be a Christian singer-songwriter. But here I am! This is the narrow road God has me on. And what a delight! To give all my music, my songs, my lyrics for His glory! My deep hope and longing is for people to feel the tangible love of God as I sing and to know that His heart is full of compassion and grace towards them. That true joy and fulfilment in life exists in knowing God. That Jesus is the bridge to salvation. “[He] is the way, the truth and the life!” (John 14:6) I have consecrated my music to the Lord and all my life, saying “Lord, do what you please.” After years of agony, never feeling fulfilled, steeped in sin and depression, I encountered His love. Now I am so overwhelmed by His loving-kindness towards me that I eagerly give my music to him! That moment when I’m singing to God, so immersed in His presence, I feel the most content and a peace that can only be from Heaven.
My roots Growing up I was first inspired by my dad leading worship at kids’ club at church, I must have been about 3 years old. Then I found myself, aged 8, singing melodies to myself acapella. At 14, I immersed myself in writing songs, hugely inspired by Jeff Buckley and Tori Amos. After meeting God, when I was 24, I felt the Holy Spirit leading me away from the music that I loved. I suddenly listened to it with what seemed new ears. Although it sounded pleasing, it left me feeling empty, overwhelmed with the grief of the artist’s heart. It struck me that they didn’t sound free or content. Something in me was aching to hear music from a wholesome heart. I found I just couldn’t listen to this music anymore. I then discovered Kevin Prosch and fell in love with his very free experimental spontaneous sound. After, I discovered Roy Fields and felt the tangible Glory of God in his music. I was hooked! Now I’m moving to Brazil, I’ve been listening to Brazilian worship music. I feel the Lord weaving an English folk-gospel and Brazilian alternative-rock worship sound, which I’m really intrigued by! What I love is seeing people being touched by the presence of God when I’m worshipping and encountering His love. That is what I’m living for. For people to experience the true God. Absolute pure love. So I sing with Kevin Prosch ‘Come let us return to the Lord’. (Hosea 6:1)
I want my songs to speak of WHO the person of Jesus is and WHO God is and be immersed in the Holy Spirit. People can’t worship a God they don’t know. So, my next album is to invite people to get to know Jesus and the love of the Father. So, that they might “hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and [He] would heal them.’ (Matthew 13:15) That they might “reach out for Him and find Him” (Acts 17:27) That is what my music is inviting people to. Eternal life. A place where they’ll be “no more death or mourning or crying or pain” (Revelation 21:4)
