TYDE brandishes a rich soundscape that ebbs and flows between jazz, prog, pop, funk, and folk. The Brisbane female-led 8-piece have a truly genre-fluid sound, combining percussive finger-style guitar riffs, funky bass and horn lines that'll stick in your head for days, and heavy prog moments for your head-banging pleasure. Paired with the soulful voice of front-woman Ella Belfanti, TYDE will have you both grooving to infectious hooks and trying to work out what time signature you're dancing to.
Their repertoire calls to mind artists like The Cat Empire, Hiatus Kaiyote, Vera Blue, and Rage Against The Machine - their energetic live show seamlessly knits this broad range of sounds together.
TYDE have received Triple J radio play for their releases, have headlined 'Can't Touch This' Festival, played festivals including Bluesfest Byron Bay, Brisbane International Jazz Festival, Airlie Beach Festival of Music, and more. Only just getting started, they are one of Meanjin (Brisbane)'s most exciting up-and-comers.
The TYDE collective showcase their chops at their live show through intricate arrangements and improvisation sections; moments unique to each live show. TYDE's songs are critical yet empowering, revealing yet uplifting. The energetic live show is different every time, and always has audiences dancing and singing along.
TYDE is led by Cole Clark Guitars-endorsed percussive guitarist and songwriter Ella Belfanti, who has toured solo playing National Folk Festival, Bluesfest Byron Bay, Melbourne Guitar Festival and many more. Since forming TYDE at the beginning of the pandemic, the eclectic project has coordinated and featured on a compilation album with artists including John Butler Trio, The Waifs, and Emily Wurramara to fundraise for Support Act, featured in national and international news advocating for musicians through covid cancellations, they have toured the East Coast, played at festivals including Airlie Beach Music Festival, Crack N Jack, and Bluesfest Byron Bay (via winning a slot through the busking comp).
