Five women, ten instruments; Wookalily weave a sonic world full of wonder, mystery and mayhem, creating a cinematic soundtrack that’s otherworldly. They will keep you awed and bemused with their folk-noir vibrations, low bowing double bass, four part harmonies, piano, banjo, psychedelic flutes, drunk trumpet and more.
Wookalily’s upcoming second album, entitled Everything is Normal… ‘Except the Little Things Inside My Head’ was recorded on analogue equipment by award-winning producer Julie McLarnon (The Vaselines, Jeffrey Lewis, Lankum, King Creosote). It is a grown-up, monochrome, gently melancholy successor to 2015’s technicolour and gleefully riotous ‘All The Waiting While’ – a debut album that generated a wave of gigs around UK, Ireland and further afield. They are heard regularly in session for the BBC, UTV, Irish TV on Sky and RTE (TV and Radio) including a BBC4 documentary series featuring Midge Ure and Rhod Gilbert.
Audiences savour the rootsy fare they serve up. They flush your head clean; the buzz being generated is zingy, punk-spirited and exhilarating. Live shows are orchestrated to have all the grace and excitement of being flung from a spinning carousel. This is folk music that has ambitions to gatecrash rockier indie-pop circles. A rush of fresh air.
