Tom Sail Announces Debut Album Wasted Hours — Released 25 September 2026
A record about reclaiming time, reevaluating relationships and falling back in love with songwriting, Wasted Hours marks the long-awaited debut album from Manchester singer-songwriter Tom Sail.
Tom Sail will release his debut album Wasted Hours on 25 September 2026 — a deeply personal record about reinvention and finding your way back to the things that make you feel like yourself.
Formerly the frontman of BBC Introducing favourites Jolanga, Tom Sail had his original debut album plans halted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the release of Sunstroke, he stepped away from music for three years, losing his connection with songwriting. After encouragement from a friend and the purchase of a piano, Tom Sail began writing again, creating the new sound that became Wasted Hours.
The album’s first glimpse arrived with 2024 single AWOL, drawing comparisons to Bon Iver and The National, followed by 7-11, recorded with his former Jolanga bandmates and embracing a new piano-led direction.
Wasted Hours is an ambitious blend of indie folk, alternative pop, cool jazz and progressive rock, influenced by artists including Talk Talk, Young Fathers, Chet Baker, Big Thief, John Martyn and Marvin Gaye.
Recorded at RAK Studios alongside stolen locations including a piano showroom and borrowed baby grand in a livijng room of a house that a friend was cat sitting for. Contributions come from musicians around the world, the album features performances recorded in California, Ukraine, Poland, Italy and Nigeria. Produced by longtime collaborator Will Purton (Tom Speight, Liam Gallagher).
The album includes previous singles Still My Love, Mona Lisa, Sunday Blues and Something To Be Proud Of. Highlights include the soulful 70s-inspired Maybe Tomorrow, the smoky cool jazz of Voicenotes, festival-ready indie anthem Good Things, and heartfelt acoustic singalongs It Doesn’t Rain and Bombs.
Wasted Hours is Tom Sail’s opportunity to stop looking back and create music purely for the love of it — a debut album shaped by time lost, creativity rediscovered and the decision to start again.
Tom Sail’s debut album Wasted Hours will be released on 25 September 2026.
