Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine refused to carry on if it had "stopped being fun," so it came as little surprise that only moments after the group had split, founding member Les Carter would sprint out to form the good-time guzzling punk band Abdoujaparov. Named after his favorite cyclist, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, Carter's new band shot back to the hedonistic '70s New York school of thought where passion superseded proficiency, but updating it with a dismissal of nihilistic pretension in favor of beer-and-mates revelry. Abdoujaparov also modernized punk's D.I.Y. production ethics: a formation of Carter's own record label avoided pressure from the majors and an Internet shareware distribution system made creation of home-recorded releases affordable and untouched
The music is raucous, fast and sometimes a bit country. The lyrics are rude, tender, funny and frequently a little unwell.
The band features a constantly changing line-up depending on where and when they are playing. Check out the Abdou Family Tree for the gory details. They have also toured under the guise of iDou, which is a cut-down line-up featuring Les, Richy and an iPod Shuffle.
