“Melissa’s vocals are sensitive, soulful and emotional...” - Maverick
Stripped Back is the beautifully intimate and bold new release from London based singer-songwriter Melissa James.
A return to the recording studio last summer has resulted in a mini album of acoustic songs from the soulful-folk singer to allow the stories behind the lyrics to unfold. The depth of Melissa’s voice is highlighted as is the beautiful instrumental accompaniment of Tom Gamble’s guitar playing and Arthur Lea’s performance on piano. These songs – co-written with her collaborator, Ross Lorraine - were recorded live and illustrate Melissa’s vulnerability and leave her with nowhere to hide which truly allows each song to shine.
Melissa’s stories chart growth and hurt and bring to the fore the tales that are built into her own life as well as those lives and influences that have surrounded her. A follow-up to her 2012 debut, Day Dawns, Stripped Back is a collection of candidly moving songs and the overall result is heartfelt and raw.

“She’s terrific, really one to watch,” – BBC Radio 2.
Emma King’s remarkable journey has already taken her from England to the USA and back again, touring Europe and receiving 5-star reviews along the way. The only question being: How does such a big voice come from such a petite frame?!...
Now based in London, Emma’s awe-inspiring vocals conduct an uplifting and emotive contemporary Pop sound. With songs touching on themes as big as world peace, change, and self-empowerment, albeit with a delicate personal touch, this is an artist with something to say. Emma’s music will make you feel alive…and you won’t be able to stop tapping your feet either.
2016’s self-titled debut album tapped into the stories and experiences of her 5 years touring the USA, from Nashville, TN to Washington DC and everywhere in between. A record which Blues magazine described as “really something special…sitting mid-point between the gospel Soul of Aretha Franklin and the dirty Blues of Fleetwood Mac.” Maverick Magazine’s Megan Gnad called it ‘a “fierce record; focusing on her powerhouse vocals…pop-tastic hits wrapped up in genuine warmth and honesty.” BBC Radio 2 also gave national airplay to several of the album’s songs.
Let’s step back in time…
Emma started singing professionally at the age of 12. From humble backgrounds in the North of England, she developed a love for Elvis, Johnny Cash as well as The Eurythmics. She credits an early chance to begin her journey to being awarded a scholarship to a Brighton music college by Carleen Anderson (Brand New Heavies, god-daughter of James Brown) after submitting an audition CD. Having studied in Brighton, Emma began to fulfil her dream of playing in America’s homes of Rock ‘n’ Roll: Nashville and Memphis. She worked, worked, worked - self-funding 4 trips to Nashville before she eventually signed with indie label PLC Records. There followed an amazing 5-year adventure which should probably have its own book someday; recording at Sun Studio in Memphis, multiple appearances at Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Café and WSM Radio, 21 hour-long drives to gigs in Wisconsin, and recording with multi-award winning producers including Chas Sandford (Steve Nicks, Chicago, John Waite) and Milan Bogdan (KC & The Sunshine Band).
After five years, away from friends and family, Emma felt it was time to reconnect with the UK music scene, soon undertaking a nationwide BBC Radio Tour and garnering industry acclaim from the BPI, BASCA, Abbey Road Studio, and HMV among others.
Stay tuned for BRAND NEW music from Emma King in 2017!

Rich Somers's new album is titled, "Back on Bourbon Street". It has been influenced by artists such as Ray Charles,Amy Winehouse, The band and Little feat. It is best described as New Orleans Blues...music to feed the soul". www.richsomers.com
