The Hurricanes return!
After a dramatic pause, The Hurricanes return.
Northamptons finest garage-beat-mod band are back with their remarkable fourth album “Songs From The White Room”. Returning to the DIY way of working that has seen the foursome do so well on their previous albums, this is a further evolution both from a songwriting and performance perspective.
From the classic Bond theme style opener “Start Again” to the fierce meltdown of the closing “The Last Time Forever”, this is a band comfortably scaling new heights. It’s impressive stuff! In between the band mine their influences to good effect whether that be the laid back soulful groove of “Down The Road”, the all out garage punk of “Can You Hear Me”, or the unsurprisingly Kinksy “The Songs Of Ray Davies”. Along the way the Hurricanes bring Medway grit, Detroit stomp, trippy shoe gaze psychedelia, and the feel of the Who scrapping with the Clash over which Creation song is the best. Cymbals crash, drums quake, bass rumbles, guitars feedback, while the vocal rides the wave ably abetted by guest vocalist Bettie Hurricane on 5 of the albums 12 tracks.
Released on the Hurricanes own label, Let’s Go Records, the album is named after the bands, now sadly closed, rehearsal space where the bulk of the recordings were completed. Lyrically the theme running through the album is largely one of endings and moving forwards. And that’s where The Hurricanes are heading...
