SUCKER PUNCH PRESENTS OUR 5TH BIRTHDAY PARTY WITH BOSSY LOVE + EDWIN ORGAN + HAPPY SPENDY + DJs
Entry Requirements: Over 18s only
WE ARE 5!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE WE MADE IT THIS FAR?!
Well, actually we've been 5 since August but we've put off celebrating so we could put together an appropriately dynamite, party bill with our pals at Gold Flake Paint, continuing our SUCKER PUNCH festival ideals of impeccably curated shows!
Bossy Love
We've been hoping to get Bossy Love to the cafe for ages and we're delighted that they were able to make this special event. THE essential Glasgow party are enigmatic duo, singer-come-mechanical scientist Amandah Wilkinson (formally Operator Please) and ex Dananananaykroyd drummer/ BBQ restaurateur John Baillie Jnr, Bossy Love aren’t your typical RnB/Pop pair.
Lauded by critics as ‘one to watch’ after they self released tracks ‘Sweat It Out,’ and ‘Body’ last year, both quickly earned the band a dedicated following.
The powerful debut single that followed, ‘Want Some’ released on Nightwave’s tastemaker label Heka Trax this March treated listeners ears to their next dose of ‘tropical R&B’ meets hard hip hop beats, with remixes from the label boss herself and Big Dope P (Ninja Tune / LuckyMe). Securing plays across BBC Radio 1Xtra, Beats 1, Kiss FM as well as a whole lot of love from the blogosphere; Dummy, Fader, Clash, Earmilk, GOLDFLAKEPAINT and more all boarding the Bossy train.
Live Bossy Love are a force to be reckoned with. Experienced touring artists they come without trepidation ready to convert the new and excite the faithful. Creamy sounds, samples and lyrics delivered with a zero-fucks magnetic punk attitude, “It’s a brave band that allows Bossy Love to open for them. Pure heat from the very first bar, the Glaswegian trio transform a sparse, early doors crowd into a fully fledged front row dance party.” - The Skinny
Edwin Organ
Edwin Organ is an electronic artist & producer based in Glasgow. He has gained recognition for his unique take on electronica. Edwin Organ gave up a career as a prolific dance prodigy to undertake 4 years of reclusive composition, holing himself up in the remote Ayrshire country side before making his pilgrimage to the cultural hub of Glasgow.
Fuelled by a predominantly potato based diet, he unleashed the fruits of his labour upon an unwitting and often uneasy general public. Speaking only in 3rd person to ease the awkward get to-know-you period all artists and future fans have to undertake - this narrative not only serves as a gentle dip of the toe into Edwin Organ's hot tub of adventure, but proposes the question "is this actually his Press Agent speaking, or Edwin himself?". Come bathe with me, it's warm in here.
He’s received national and international radio play – from BBC to Amazing Radio, play-listed on Radio3Fach in Switzerland, and played across a number of college and independent radio stations in Germany and the U.S. He’s been featured in Complex, XLR8R (Track of the week), The Line of Best Fit (Track of the week), Scotland on Sunday, & was included in Detour’s 100 best Scottish tracks of 2016.
Happy Spendy
"It’s not that the current Glasgow scene has become stale, more that it’s currently pushing a slew of scuzzy guitar bands to the forefront of its window-front. Which makes the debut EP from Happy Spendy even more compelling and noticeable. Released, as the true hidden gems are, with little fanfare or glamour last month, “You Look Lovely” offers three mellow and melodramatic tracks from Eimear (Derry born, Glasgow based) and co. which acts as the first glimpse in to the project’s subtle electro-pop sketches. Sometimes wistful, occasionally romantic, and always packed full of restless longing... A very impressive starting-point." GoldFlakePaint
