An original play influenced by the music of punk legend Poly Styrene.
Set in two equally explosive eras - 1977 and post-Brexit Britain - Highly Inflammable uses Poly’s prophetic lyrics and ideas to explore very modern day problems. Or are they?
‘Highly Inflammable’ will be the centrepiece of a unique day dedicated to the X-Ray Spex frontwoman who saw the Sex Pistols on Hastings Pier in 1976 and was inspired to form her own punk band.
An exhibition in St Mary’s crypt will feature private memorabilia, unreleased recordings and Poly’s last interview. A panel discussion will explore Poly’s influence on a new generation of musicians, writers and artists. Live music by local bands playing Poly will round out the evening.
‘Highly Inflammable’ - waiting to explode under the dome in St Mary in the Castle.
