“EVERY RECORD LABEL SHOULD HAVE ITS OWN THEME TUNE.”
So says Jason Hodgson, Chief Executive / Tea Boy of one-man independent label Barrel And Squidger Records.
Being repeatedly asked the meaning of the label’s name, Jason wrote the simple explanation in the words of a song.
It’s an everyday story that most can surely associate with: On a stormy day, two mad scientists go for a few drinks. Suitably refreshed, they return to their laboratory and, just for fun, mix squirrel and badger DNA to see what would happen. The “squidgers” they created soon escape into nearby woodland where they find flytipped beer barrels and abandoned record decks. Placing a turntable on top of a barrel, they discover a natural affinity for DJ-ing, then set up their own vinyl pressing plant in the woods.
It’s a tale that needed telling. So, roping in friend-of-the-label CJ Wildheart (The Wildhearts, Honeycrack, The Jellys), who in turn recruited drummer Jason Bowld (Bullet For My Valentine, Pitchshifter, Pop Will Eat Itself, Killing Joke), the “Theme Tune From Barrel And Squidger Records” has been brought to life as a 32-second speedpunk ’n’ roll blast, with an amazing comic-strip video.
It's coupled with “The Baddest Girl In The World”, the lead track from CJ’s latest, critically-acclaimed solo album “Slots” that has been racking up airplay worldwide.
Both tracks have been mixed & mastered by Dave Draper.
