Post-rock trailblazers sleepmakeswaves have announced a massive start to 2017 with the news that their third album “Made of Breath only” will be released Friday March 24th through Bird’s Robe Records, followed by a headline tour of Australia during March and April.

Known for the passionate energy they bring to live instrumental rock, the band will take their epic and climactic live show around the country, premiering new material from the album for the first time, as well as favourites from their previous ARIA-nominated albums ‘Love of Cartography’ and ‘…and so we destroyed everything.’

sleepmakeswaves have quickly evolved into one of Australia’s most exciting and innovative musical exports. Following tours with scene giants such as Karnivool, Cog, Underoath, 65daysofstatic, Opeth and a forthcoming run alongside prog legend Devin Townsend, the Sydney band’s unique instrumental epics and their energetic performances have seen them connect with a diverse and passionate audience of music fans.

‘Made of Breath only’ is the band’s most ambitious record to date. Following a period of intense touring, relationship challenges, illness and set against the scene of a world in upheaval, the record reflects the band’s experience of darker emotions, balanced by the unprecedented reception to and joy brought from their musical experiences around the world over the past four years – including 11 Australian tours, 4 European tours, 2 North American tours and sold out shows across Asia.

Recorded with renowned producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Powderfinger, Rage Against the Machine) in Byron Bay, the album features a progressive combination of sounds hinted at in lead single ‘Tundra’ which premiered on triple j. The record at once captures the band’s push to challenge and evolve, whilst retaining all the energy, melody and vibe they are known for.

Joining the tour at all shows as special guests are Australian progressive rock heavyweights Caligula’s Horse, fresh off a mammoth tour of Australia & New Zealand alongside Opeth. The Brisbane five-piece have enjoyed a meteoric rise since the release of their second album. Touring Europe, sold out shows across Australia and shared stages with the likes of Opeth, Protest the Hero and The Dillinger Escape Plan. This tour will showcase the rare combination of Australia’s most exciting young progressive groups of recent years.

On the cusp of their third album release, a world tour and with an epic new live show to boot, the ‘Made of Breath only’ tour promises to be one of sleepmakeswaves’ most memorable to date.

‘Made of Breath only’ is out Friday March 24 through Bird’s Robe Records/MGM.

Line Up

sleepmakeswaves are an instrumental rock band from sydney, australia.

The band came together in late 2006 with a desire to write textured, dynamic and emotive songs combining delicate beauty with dramatic climaxes. After their 2007 demo generated unexpected buzz, they went on to independently produce 2 further EPs. Strong word of mouth and critical praise saw the band’s listener base grow worldwide, with over 50,000 people downloading their tracks online and airplay on triple j, Radio K and the BBC.

In late 2011, the band released their debut studio album “…and so we destroyed everything” through independent Australian label Bird’s Robe Records. Over three years of touring in support of the album, their busy schedule included 8 Australian tours, 3 European tours, touring the USA and playing SXSW, tours with 65daysofstatic and Karnivool – and an unprecedented nomination for an ARIA Award in 2012.

In 2014, the band kicked off another amazing run, touring with Karnivool & Dead Letter Circus, headlining their biggest Australian tour to date and playing a rapturous set at Newtown Festival in their hometown. Their new album ‘Love of Cartography’ has been nominated for an ARIA Award, a J Award and AIR Award, as well as featuring the triple j playlisted singles ‘Something Like Avalanches’ and ‘Great Northern.’

In 2015, sleepmakeswaves announced the ‘Great Northern’ tour, taking in 55 shows across 22 countries, including the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, from March to June.

In late 2015, the band capped off the year at the 5-year anniversary show for Bird’s Robe Records and Port Macquarie’s Festival of the Sun, including a farewell to longtime guitarist Jonathan Khor.

2016 saw the released of ‘traced in constellations’ as a single and a 54-date tour including a return to North America for the first time in four years, touring alongside progressive rockers The Contortionist & Monuments. The band, with new guitarist Daniel Oreskovic, also recorded a show-stopping session with Audiotree Live, released as an EP mid-year.

Following the mammoth US run, sleepmakeswaves were announced as support for COG on their sold out reunion tour. In addition, the band headlined their own shows nationally with support from The Contortionist.

2017 will see the release of the third album from sleepmakeswaves, a headline tour of China, Europe & Australia, supporting Devin Townsend Project around Australia & New Zealand and much more. With a devoted following around the world for their innovative and expansive music, coupled with an electrifying live show, the future looks bright for this young instrumental quartet.

Named for the prized possession of Rome’s infamous despot, CALIGULA’S HORSE is a progressive alternative rock band from Brisbane, Australia.

Channelling the raw honesty of rock and the skill of progressive metal into a seamless voice at once energetic, grand and forthright, CALIGULA’S HORSE offers devotees of all strains of powerful and progressive music something unique.

Formed by Sam Vallen and Jim Grey in early 2011, CALIGULA’S HORSE released their debut album “Moments from Ephemeral City” in April of the same year. “Moments” is a colourful and dynamic foray into modern progressive music, at once vital, eclectic, and memorable. It was followed in 2013 by “The Tide, the Thief & River’s End”, a dark, powerful narrative concept album about isolation, exodus, and the human spirit overcoming insurmountable odds. It received international acclaim in the progressive music sphere, lauded by rock and metal fans alike. The release of “River’s End” saw the group undertake an intense touring regime, including dates with the likes of OPETH, TESSERACT, MASTODON, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, PROTEST THE HERO, THE OCEAN, FIREWIND, TWELVE FOOT NINJA, NE OBLIVISCARIS, and hundreds more. But for CALIGULA’S HORSE this is only the beginning. After joining the roster of THE AGENCY GROUP in North America, AMF Publishing in the UK, and signing with the prestigious German record label INSIDE OUT, the band’s sights are firmly set on the rest of the world.

2015 saw CALIGULA’S HORSE release their third record “Bloom”, their most vivid, and emotional work to date. “Bloom” is the perfect mission statement for an act blurring the line between power and reflection; a musical assertion with depth enough for the most dedicated of prog fans, and with fire enough to bring audiences in venues across the world to fury and their voices to unison.
