Musicians with Their Own Games
There has long been an intersection of music and gaming - that really creates the ultimate experience for their fans… blending musical entertainment with fun gameplay - and some seriously cool backing tracks.
There are lots of different musicians that have stepped from the music world into the gaming world… with names like Jimi Hendrix and Guns ‘N Roses with their own UK slot sites list at FruitySlots, and 50 Cent and his G Unit fighting baddies in the Middle East.
Here, we’re going to look at some of the very best computer games inspired by legends of the music world.
Michael Jackson: Moonwalker
Is there nothing this man hasn’t been a legend at? Unsurprisingly, Michael Jackson was one of the first musical superstars to enter the world of gaming. Released back in 1990, this game was based on his music and the 1988 film of the same name and it featured Jackson using all his iconic dance moves and musical powers as he fought the baddies to rescue kidnapped children - and to make it even better, it was all set to some of his biggest hits like Smooth Criminal and Beat It.
The game was the perfect blend of Jackson’s musical legacy with top-end gameplay - and it was playable on all different platforms, including arcades, Sega Genesis, and Master System.
Aerosmith: Revolution X
Next, we have Revolution X, which was released in 1994 and was a shooter game that was developed by Midway and starred the legendary rock band Aerosmith. As a player, you had to fight against an oppressive regime that had banned music, and Aerosmith's songs and virtual personas were the stars of the story.
It was awesome - because it really managed to capture the whole spirit of the band, and with incredible tracks like Eat the Rich and Sweet Emotion, there was a real energy to the gameplay - making it a cult classic.
50 Cent: Bulletproof and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand
Then we have the rapper 50 Cent, who brought his persona to the gaming world with two different action-packed games. In 50 Cent: Bulletproof (2005), you need to try and survive in the criminal underworld. Then, in the sequel, Blood on the Sand (2009), it all went a bit crazy - as 50 Cent and his G-Unit crew took on baddies in the Middle East.
Both of the games included lots of 50 Cent’s music - and, as you progressed through the game, you could unlock exclusive tracks and even customise your soundtrack. They even had voiceovers by 50 Cent and his crew, adding even more star power to the whole experience.
Britney Spears: Britney’s Dance Beat
Next, we move on to the famous nineties/noughties pop icon Britney Spears who ventured into the gaming world with Britney’s Dance Beat (2002). You had to audition to become part of Spears’ dance crew by completing various rhythm-based challenges… all set to her biggest hits, including Oops!... I Did It Again and …Baby One More Time.
This was a game all about her pop persona, and you could see if you had what it took to hit the dancefloor, like Britney herself.
Snoop Dogg: Way of the Dogg
This game was released in 2013 and is a cool combination of rhythm-based gameplay and martial arts. The game was based on Snoop Dogg’s love of music and kung fu films, and it features some of his very best tracks as you battle the enemy in time to the beat.
This whole game is really unique - and it’s the perfect showcase of Snoop’s whole creative identity.
Lady Gaga: GagaVille
The fans really went Gaga for this one when our favourite meat-wearing lady teamed up with FarmVille creators to bring us GagaVille back in 2011 - and it brought us plenty of tunes from her album Born This Way. You got to work your way through a Gaga-themed farm filled with unicorns, crystals, and all sorts of other unfarmlike elements.
This game was the perfect blend of Gaga’s quirky brand and was a great way to listen to her music while having fun in a crazy and weird virtual world.
There you have it - some of the very best musical forays into the gaming world!
