ROCK AGAINST RACISM
Portobello Live! 2017 will be taking a retrospective look at ROCK AGAINST RACISM, a movement which sprang into life 40 years ago. We'll be presenting work by artists, writers, thinkers and musicians who were influenced by RAR, including one of the founders, photographer Syd Shelton. Recalling those times he says: "We called our marches ‘carnivals’ which we had borrowed from the Notting Hill Carnival where so many RAR bands had done their musical and street fighting apprenticeships".
